This can be a good report however will not change a lot for the BoE at this level.
The ONS says: “The amount of products purchased (quantity) in retail gross sales is estimated to have risen by 0.4% within the three months to Could 2026 in contrast with the three months to February 2026. Non-food shops’ gross sales volumes rose, with department shops performing effectively in Could due to the great climate. Additionally inside non-food shops, pc and telecoms retailers continued to develop following product releases in March 2026. Non-store retailers rose following sturdy March and Could durations.
Retail gross sales volumes are estimated to have risen by 1.2% in Could 2026. This follows a fall of 1.0% in April 2026 (revised up from a 1.3% fall in our earlier bulletin), and an increase of 0.7% in March 2026 (revised up from a 0.6% rise in our earlier bulletin). Retailers urged that promotions and the recent climate in Could elevated gross sales volumes for non-store retailers and department shops.”
