Cardinal Timothy Dolan will say his last midnight Christmas Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Dec. 24 as he strikes into retirement, however he has a plan to maintain busy, a marketing strategy.
Dolan stated he has already obtained affords to put in writing a ebook and take part in a documentary as he steps down from his function as archbishop of New York, a place he has held for roughly 16 years.
In a latest interview with Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Dolan spoke concerning the steps he has taken towards retirement and what he hopes to pursue subsequent.
“Individuals know if you flip 75 — any bishop — fairly quickly he’ll be retired,” Dolan stated. “So, individuals know that, and so they’ll begin writing you. So, I bought some requests, wish to go to some universities, simply to be on campus, perhaps to take a sabbatical, perhaps to show a course.

“I even bought a suggestion to put in writing a ebook. I bought a suggestion to do a documentary on the standing of the church in the USA. So, issues are available, and I will form of recognize the possibility to set my very own schedule.”
Dolan famous that he had submitted his resignation in February as required by canon legislation.
“It is canon legislation, church legislation, that when a bishop reaches 75, it’s essential to submit your resignation to the bishop of Rome, the Holy Father,” Dolan stated. “So, I did, and about two weeks later, I bought the letter again saying … ‘The Holy Father accepts your resignation.’”

The Vatican introduced Thursday that Pope Leo has appointed Bishop Ronald Hicks of Joliet, Illinois, as the subsequent archbishop of New York, putting him on the helm of the two.8 million Catholics who make up the Archdiocese of New York.
Dolan has led the archdiocese since 2009.
Dolan will proceed to supervise the archdiocese as apostolic administrator till Archbishop-designate Hicks formally takes workplace on Feb. 6 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
